TheBlaze If you have ever wondered about the government’s ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th.

On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).

This isn’t a wild conspiracy theory. The upcoming test is posted on the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau website.

Only the President has the authority to activate EAS at the national level, and he has delegated that authority to the Director of FEMA. The test will be conducted jointly by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS).

  1. Doesn’t anyone remember the CD (civil defense) tests? They used to pre-empt programming on a daily basis, at various times in the 60′s. This is a capability the gov’t has had, except at that time I think it was at the discretion of the local broadcasters.

  2. Anything with obama behind it HAS to be iffy !! I dont like this one bit! I agree with what Invisible Mikey said, but I believe this is indeed a test……a test to see what these thugs in Washington are capable of. Maybe Im just being stupid. Maybe Im not, but obama always had “wrong” written all over him. Be suspicious. Be very suspicious !!

    • I agree this is a great way to ramp-up peoples fear. I would not be surprised if it is not a campaign ploy. “Look at the swirly test pattern on the screen, your getting sleepy, with the voice that says Vote for me, Re-elect me, Hope and Change, Hope and Change” LOL…
Needless to say I think it is very suspicious!!!

  3. Ya … I echo what the others have said … it’s just a little iffy because this opaque administration has already set off so many red flags. Exactly what are THEY doing during this test? I honestly cannot fathom a justification for such a system. State wide, yes, but national??? What kind of emergency would affect the entire nation simultaneously? Ya, the timing is suspicious, too! (the day after an election?)

  4. It isn’t like the feds have given any of us a good reason to trust them of late and as far as testing goes they have had the ability to do this for years they just haven’t done it since tv’s have been in color. My question would be why now and what are they up too?

  5. Hi, Sarah. I don’t understand why you think testing a national emergency broadcasting system for up to three and a half minutes (probably less) in the middle of the night is a bad thing. If we had coordinated and tested this sort of linked system prior to 9/11, it would have been faster and easier to provide clear emergency directions and information to those in NYC and Washington under attack. Many lives could have been saved.

I do understand your mistrust of the “hidden” government. However, sometimes government agencies do try to make things better. To me, this test is all about improving emergency communications capabilities. That makes us all safer.

On an unrelated note, I liked your photos, and Vito’s cute. We are in the early phase of training a guide dog puppy (black lab/golden mix).

    • Hey Mikey!

I understand what you are saying about testing it for security purposes. And I really would not have had a problem with it, had it not been scheduled to occur at 2:00pm on a Wednesday afternoon. Why would they schedule something like this for one of the busiest times in the day? I just don’t understand this?

Thank you for your kind words about my pictures and ESPECIALLY my baby Vito. I have no children… so he is like my child. hahaha! A lot cheaper than a real child too. :) I had a labrador mix years ago that was amazingly smart. I swear… sometimes it seemed like she understood the human language. hehehe…

Thanks for visiting my blog. Your comments are always welcomed.

      • OOPS! thanks for correcting me. I had somehow thought it was 2AM! Guess I wasn’t paying close enough attention. Now I’m betting it’s to see how many places will receive the broadcast, like they do when they first set up a TV or radio station – they can only guess the range and boundaries a transmission will go to until they get reports back.

    • They are test the system because they have forced hardware on all stations that allow the government to pull the plug or control programming. Safety you say? If you trust your government that much ok :-/
